The Forgotten Blog

This is what I'm thinking I should re-name this blog as...The Forgotten Blog. I swore up and down when I was pregnant I was going to keep track of new motherhood by writing it all down and yeah that didn't go too well did it. Ah if only I could go back and tell pregnant me a few things (like you will survive those first 3 months of no sleep and fussiness).

But now that I have a 5 and a half month old things are starting to improve...slowly. We're now into the wonderful teething phase and everything, EVERYTHING, is going into the mouth. Our favourite thing to chew on is either our hand, our Sofie the Giraffe toy, our Razberry soother or of course the best of all...Mommy's fingers. And man does that kid have some chompers in him and there isn't even teeth yet!

We also seem to have stumbled into the stage of "mommy can't be beyond arms reach or I may flip out". Usually not a problem until that dreaded bathroom break comes then its like "hrm do I hold it? If I run off while he's playing with his blanket will that give me enough time to go and then come back before he even notices?" Sometimes we have no idea mommy has even left and other times it's like our world has ended and there's mommy feeling guilty for having a full bladder. But sometimes when you gotta go, you gotta go. I already clean enough messes up I don't need another to deal with!

We will every once in awhile surprise mommy and spend time playing by ourselves. We're not too sure yet of our exersaucer or jolly jumper. It's funny because we like the toys in our exersaucer but we get frustrated when they can't come closer into our mouth.

And with the jolly jumper we like it when mommy or daddy make us bounce but haven't figured out the whole jumping thing just yet. We also have a bouncy chair that has become entertaining...more so for mommy and daddy as we can now shimmy our way out of it or if we get really squirmy we can almost roll out of it. Definitely keeps us on our toes!

Our favourite activity though has now become naked time. We are going through towels like crazy because of it. This also means that we are rolling around a lot more. For some reason we're not a fan of being on our tummy when we are in our diaper or clothed but when we're naked we still don't love it but are willing to put up with it for a few minutes longer. At least (knock on wood) we haven't figured out the rolling thing at night. I've heard stories of kids waking up in the night screaming because they've rolled onto their stomach and can't get back and the parents have to rescue them every few hours. I may not be getting much sleep but at least I'm getting more then that!

And sleep training. There's something they should prepare mothers more for! So Munchkin can actually do quite well putting himself to sleep after we go through our routine. It's the staying asleep through the night we had issues with. He thought that every 2 hours would be more then enough and the only thing that would help put him back to sleep was milk. Great for him...not so much for me. So we tried the whole sleep training thing...well sort of. I started doing modified versions of a bunch of them but none of them were working. Plus it didn't help that I couldn't stand listening to him cry longer then 5 mins. So after talking to a bunch of my friends and doing lots of research online I decided to give the Sleep EASY method a try. My girlfriend told me to do the routine and when he woke up 1-2 hours later don't check on him for 15 mins. I had always gone in after 5 mins so 15 seemed like a life time. Sure enough after 13 mins we had a little boy who had put himself back to sleep but of course a frazzled mom thinking she was the worse parent in the world for letting her kid cry that long. Well one week later and I can now say I think it was the best thing in the world for us. I can easily get a 4-6 hour stretch of sleep which makes for a much happier mommy (and baby)!

So what's next for us? Well we're hoping to try solids very very soon. I've been looking into how to make rice cereal and other foods so we'll see how Munchkin likes that. I'm hoping that maybe on Christmas he can have some potatoes and or yams with us at dinner. We're also looking forward to his first Christmas. I swore up and down that neither us nor Santa were going to spoil him and yet somehow there is already a couple of bags worth of things in our closet waiting to be put under the tree. But you only get one First Christmas and even though he may not remember it I'm sure the whole family will!

But we're definitely starting to show our emotions more. We have our fussy times but we also give big smiles, giggles and show excitement over just about anything. I think though one of my favourite faces after big smiles is our pouty face. How can you say no to this...

Holiday Blur

Wow what a Christmas. Busy busy busy as always but it seems like it is destined to be a busy holiday for me no matter what. This year was extra special because Hubby and I got to announce to the family...I'm pregnant

Yup that's the start of a baby bump there and we've been keeping this secret from some family and friends (and most of the online world) now for almost 3 months! Let me tell you it's one of the hardest things I've ever done but so worth it when you see everyone's faces after you tell them there's going to be a little on in the family.

So Christmas morning this year was held at our place and what a wonderful idea that was. My parents, Hubby's mom and brother all came over in the morning and I swear I've never seen our tree have so many presents underneath.

I think my favourite part though was all the stockings.

We had mine and Hubby's which we give each other. Then Hubby and his brother had one for their mom. Then both Hubby's mom and my parents had stocking's for me and Hubby. I took us almost as long to open them as it did to open the presents.

Then we had to kick everyone out of the house and head off to my father in law's for more Christmas fun. I loved the way that my sister in law had labeled all the gifts and in fact this was my favourite.

Yup even the baby got a gift. In face the baby got spoiled this year already. New Robeeze from my mother in law, a Molli bib from brother in law, a watch me grow book and Canada t-shirt from sister in law, 2 board books from our friend and a photo watch me grow book from my aunt! My mom was a little miffed because I had told people that I didn't want anything for the baby and she has a bunch of stuff already lined up ready to give me but was good and held back during Christmas only to find out others had a different idea. I told her this wasn't a bad thing though and I can't wait now to see what she has picked out.

In the end though it was a busy couple of days. We ended up having Christmas dinner every night from Dec 23-26 plus a make up Boxing Day dinner scheduled for later today. We're so stuffed full of turkey now I think I'm ready for a break from it. Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year to all!

Christmas Is Coming!

So Christmas is fastly approaching and man what a busy time it's been for hubby and me. Between moving family, getting trees, visiting and decorating I still haven't had any time to bake or get the last of my shopping done. I'm very happy that I decided to take some time off before Christmas this year as maybe that way I can actually get some presents wrapped and under the tree!

So we started the month of December off by helping my MIL (mother in law) move into a beautiful new (to her) town house. So big compared to the 40 foot sail boat she was once living in. By the end of the night I was impressed at how much it was already looking like home. We've been in our place for 3 months now and it still looks like a war zone!

We've also done the annual tree hunt with our friends. Always fun and the kids enjoy it.

(I've been having fun with actions lately)

We found our friends their tree though after an extensive search. They have 15-20 foot vaulted ceilings and always look for the biggest tree on the lot.

With a little help...

(I title this one how many men does it take to cut down a tree...Hubby's on the backside holding it as well)

...they got it down.

Then it was our turn to search. After about 5 mins of wandering around we decided on this baby

It looked really good and it was getting cold

so we took it.

After that it was time for hot chocolate and warming up. Even the dogs though look like they had a good day.
(again playing with actions)

Finally last weekend we did our annual "Decorate Grandma and Grandpa's place, have dinner and walk down to the park to see the decorations and lights" night. When we got there though we were put to work right away vacuuming, decorating and dusting. Our reward was a wonderful meal and a great walk through the park to look at the lights. Of course I made the silly mistake of not checking my battery levels before I left and sure enough about 4 pictures later that was it! It was a lot of fun, a little cold but the kids had a great time and next year it will be great to see it through the eyes of the new little ones.

Christmas Spirit

Well it's that time of year again...CHRISTMAS! My favourite time of year.

So I'm starting to very slowly decorate the the townhouse. Nothing too extravagant yet but I have a few touches up. The first is always my old advent calendar

I have no idea when my parents gave it to me but it's always gone up December 1st no matter what. Well no matter what so long as I can find it. Every year I try to put it in a place I'll remember 11 months later and every year I'm wandering around trying to find that spot.

I've also gotten a couple of crafts done. First was this banner my mom gave me. It wasn't suppose to be a banner but each word instead was suppose to hang down separately. Well lets just say it's the last time I'm going to ever deviate from the instructions on something like this.

Also in between each of the letters is a bead and let me tell you...the ribbon they provided sure didn't want thread that bead. A little brute force and ignorance and I made it work.

And finally the last thing I'm quite proud of...my wreath. My mom has a million and one wreaths and I knew I could have borrowed one of hers but I felt like I wanted something I had done and I love how it turned out and how simple it was to put together.

Next it's tree time! We go on Sunday and I'm so happy that I get to join the group. I was suppose to be curling but I managed to find a spare. Can't wait to see what the day brings and what our tree is going to look like. Yay Christmas time!!!

All Quiet

So it's been pretty quiet since DH got back from his trip. We're slowly trying to get ready for the holidays (very slowly). I keep hearing about all these people with their trees up, lights on and baking done and I'm just sitting there with my mouth open going..."How in the world have you done this already!?! It's not even December yet folks!"

We're hoping that maybe in the next few weeks we can get ourselves out and get a freezer. I have very little space in our fridge freezer and really would like to start baking soon. No idea what I'm going to be making but I do have some cherries (for a pie) and blackberries (for a crumble) that are waiting to get made into something.

I will say though that I have managed to get a jump start on some things...Christmas shopping! So far I've bought

I spy bags for some of the kids

Two of these purses for sister in law and step mother in law (not this fabric)

Two of these credit card holders to go with purses (not in this fabric)....there may also be a third one in the pile for myself *whistling*

Cute little apron for my secret Santa name pull in my family.

And two of these belt buckles for brother in law and my secret Santa name pull for Hubby's family.

Hrm now to figure out what DH needs...and to vacuum the floor. I just noticed now there's a weird black dot on my card photos. I really hope it's fluff and not a bug.

All By Myself

Okay now I'm going to have that song stuck in my head

"All by mysellllllfff.
Don't wanna be
All by myselllllfff anymore"

Okay that's outta me now.

So Hubby was away for 5 days in Dallas Texas at a conference. It was cute because before hand he tells me
DH: "So you want to go on vacation?"
Me: "Ooooh sure. Where?"
DH: "Dallas"
Me: *blink* *blink* "Ummmmm...."

Dallas isn't really on my top list of places to got. Heck I'm sorry to say it's not even in the top 75 (yes I have a list) but I'm sure it's a wonderful place to visit but with the little vacation time I have right now I didn't really want to use it by going to Dallas. So I'm home...single...until Wednesday.

To pass the time I took over the couch in the living room and did these:

Also I did a stupid thing on Tuesday night. I was making myself a snack after work of cracker and cheese and as I was slicing the cheese I managed to slice my thumb open as well...and I mean really slice it. Like I've never bleed that much before in my life sliced it.

I was looking up numbers for clinics, finding out how deep a cut has to be before you need stitches. It took almost 30 mins for the bleeding to slow down/stop but thankfully I didn't need stitches. The whole time though I'm thinking "OMG...okay don't go into shock. You'll be fine. You can still drive if you have to. You're going to be okay...(I'm not very good with blood)." Thankfully though all was fine and I finally calmed down but it was definitely an interesting night.

What's weird though is as I was starting the cut I was telling myself "don't cut yourself". Plus while I was waiting for the bleeding to stop I was mad because I had a huge craving for cheese now and couldn't cut any as one hand was bleeding and the other was trying to stop the bleeding. I was not impressed!

So now I'm trying to function with out the thumb and I must say it's been interesting. I never knew how much I used the thumb on my left hand before but now that I can't use it it makes doing some stuff a little more interesting. I hope I'm back on track soon. Don't like using my index finger in place of a thumb...but I do get a lot of sympathy from Hubby so I guess it's not all bad ;) .
